A basic distinction is made between manual and automatic headlight range adjustment. In manual LWR, the control is done by the driver himself. Automatic LWR is divided into dynamic and quasistatic. The dynamic LWR is mainly installed in vehicles equipped with xenon headlights. This reacts to the different loading conditions in the vehicle as well as to changes in inclination caused by driving, such as acceleration and braking. In the quasi-static LWR system, a control unit evaluates the data from the front and rear axle sensors, compares these with the stored target data and, if necessary, controls the servomotors on the headlights accordingly.

Advantages of automatic and quasi-static headlight range adjustment:
• Better road illumination
• less or no glare from oncoming traffic
• independent automatic headlight range adjustment

Servomotors on the headlights defective
LWR sensor for the vehicle level defective
Control unit has been replaced and not coded
Headlights have not been adjusted (default setting)
Control unit defective
Interrupted data line
No supply voltage
Mechanical damage

With manual LWR, regularly actuate the adjuster with the lighting switched on
When replacing a light fitting, always check whether it has been installed correctly
