What is axle mounting?

Control arms and trailing arms are part of the suspension and installed on vehicles with single-wheel suspension on the front and rear axles. Control arms sit straight between the body and the suspension. Trailing arms, however, are facing the car’s direction. The combination fo the two ensures the wheel guidance and reduces the movements of the car body.

What are control arms bushings?

All control arms are mounted with rubber bushings. These bushings connect the control-arms with the car body and the suspension. When driving, the control arms can twist in the bushing, wich ensures a continuous contact of the wheel with the road. In addition, the rubber bushings absorb shocks (eg from bumps or potholes in the road).

When should control arms be replaced?

All chassis parts are subject to natural wear. As a result, they can for instance knock out. It becomes noticeable through clattering noises from the wheel or through the fact that the vehicle does not run truly straigth. The vehicle’s handling deteriorates quickly.

How to change control arms bushings?

To reduce costs, it is possible to only replace the bushings. However, they must fit perfectly to the control arm. In order to not damage the bushing during the installation, we recommend to use a special tool. VAICO offers a push-in tool: our assembly tool set is suitable for various applications and bearings with a diameter of 40 up to 85 mm
