Function

The drive belt is for synchronisation between the crankshaft and the camshaft, and transferring movement. Through this movement, the camshaft controls the inlet and outlet valves of the motor, so that it is supplied with the appropriate mixture of air and fuel. By contrast, the crankshaft ensures that the pistons are set in motion when the motor is started. If the drive belt is not tensed correctly, control times change, and this can result in the valves opening at the wrong time and colliding with the pistons. Furthermore, in some models, the drive belt also controls other units such as tension rollers, deflection rollers and water pumps, the bearings of which can be worn away by the movements.

Equally important for the motor is the suitable coolant. It prevents overheating and keeps the operating temperature constant. In case of contamination of the coolant system with residues of lime deposits or corrosion particles may lead to damage. We therefore recommend to replace the coolant, the water pump and timing belt set at the same time.
