Purpose
The ignition coil is located either above the spark plug or connected to it via an ignition cable. It has one of the most important tasks in engine control: the ignition coil must be able to generate a high voltage continuously and at very short intervals so that the spark plug can trigger an ignition spark.

Causes of failure
- Broken housing

- Poor to no ignition of the mixture in the combustion chamber
- Catalyst damage due to a high quantity of unburned fuel
